Yealands announces ‘Extraordinary Experience’ competition to win 4 trips to New Zealand
Leading Marlborough wine producer offering 4 pairs of tickets to see sustainability in action
200 ‘Cellar door’ packs will also be won
Yealands Family Wines, based in Marlborough, New Zealand, are delighted to announce the launch of a major competition for UK wine shoppers. Yealands, who supply a wide range of UK on- and off- trade customers, are offering 4 pairs of tickets for a 10-day ‘Extraordinary Experience’ via a neck-collar competition on their Peter Yealands wines.
The competition runs from 1st March to 31st May 2018, and the promotional neck-collars will feature on wines in stores including Sainsbury’s, Co-op, Booths and Waitrose during that period.
The amazing trips will give the winners an opportunity to witness up close the variety of ways in which Yealands ensure their business is at the cutting edge of sustainable wine production. Since its founding in 2008 by entrepreneur Peter Yealands in the Awatere Valley, Yealands has set the standard for sustainability. (See notes below)
The prizes include return premium economy flights to New Zealand from the UK, ten nights’ accommodation across the country in 4-star hotels, spending money and a VIP tour of Yealands winery and vineyard. The Yealands tour will take in highlights of Yealands’ sustainable wine production, from meeting their famous babydoll sheep to visiting the specially created wetlands. Each prize has a value of £10,000. The winery is also offering 200 ‘Cellar Door’ packs of Peter Yealands wines as prizes.
“Our winery and our wines are all about extraordinary ideas and a respect for the beautiful country where we are situated. We are thrilled to be able to offer lucky winners the chance to experience our operation up close, and to see for themselves what sustainability means in practice – how it can be fun and engaging, not just a scientific concept. We have been developing new ways of working in harmony with nature which I’m sure our visitors will enjoy seeing, including the establishment of habitats to encourage vital flora and fauna such as native birds and Monarch butterflies. In a wider context, sustainable production of all goods is critical to the future of our planet and here at Yealands it is at the core of everything we do. Our motto is Think boldly, tread carefully and never say it can’t be done.”
To enter Yealands’ competition, purchasers of promotionally collared wines will enter a unique code found on each neck collar via a page on the Yealands website (www.yealands.co.nz/winnz). Winners will be announced and contacted after the competition closes on 28th May 2018.
Wines and their stockists which will feature the promotional neck collars are:
Peter Yealands Sauvignon Blanc RRP £8-£9 Co-op, Sainsburys, Booths, some independent retailers
Peter Yealands Reserve Sauvignon Blanc RRP £11.59 Waitrose
Peter Yealands Sauvignon Blanc Rosé RRP £9.99 Waitrose
Notes for Editors
Established in 2008, Yealands was the first winery in the world to be 100% Carbon Neutral from the outset. Amongst many world-leading sustainability initiatives:
• It boasts the largest solar panel installation in New Zealand, which generates more than half a million kilowatt hours per year, producing a third of the energy needed to run the winery (equivalent to enough for 86 average households)
• 3 wind turbines (the estate is the closest to the coast of any in New Zealand) produce 45,000 kilowatt hours per year
• Yealands have created 25 wetlands on the vineyard. These have attracted native birds back to the area including the hawk (which is a useful predator to wildlife which can be attracted to the vines), and others such as fantails. The wetlands are also home to large lakes which have fresh water fish.
• Yealands’ herd of Babydoll sheep roam the vineyard to eat the grass between the vines,
reducing the need for herbicides – their short legs prevent them from reaching the grapes
• 200,000 native shrubs have been planted to create a natural eco system
• 200 Swan Plants have been planted to attract Monarch butterflies
Its commitment to sustainable and ethical winemaking has earned Yealands many industry awards. Most recently Yealands was winner of Enviro-Mark Solutions Award for Outstanding Performance in Carbon Product Footprint Management (NZ)
