18th October 2017, Le Golf National, Paris: The family-owned company Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Ryder Cup Europe have formally announced Mouton Cadet as Official Wine of The 2018 Ryder Cup.
Founded in 1930 by the late Baron Philippe de Rothschild (1902 – 1988), Mouton Cadet is the world’s leading Bordeaux AOC wine. The goal of Baron Philippe was to market high-quality wine to a world of burgeoning quality-conscious, wine consumers. Mouton Cadet found instant success, and is now sold in 150 countries worldwide.
Speaking of the partnership with The Ryder Cup, grandson of the Baron, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, who joined the two captains at the 2018 One Year to Go Celebrations, said “I am delighted that Mouton Cadet will be served as Official Wine at The 2018 Ryder Cup. Such a prestigious and well-known international golf competition is the perfect partner to Mouton Cadet which has a world-wide reputation for high quality wines. It is therefore a great pleasure for me to announce that a Special Cuvée dedicated to The 2018 Ryder Cup will be launched in March next year. The pursuit of excellence on the golf course fits perfectly with our values as winemakers, and the camaraderie, sportsmanship and entertainment during every competition is the perfect setting for our wines.”

The 2018 Ryder Cup will be the 42nd in its history, and will be played on the Albatros Course of Le Golf National, Paris from 28th to 30th September 2018, with the United States team captained by Jim Furyk looking to retain the trophy they won at Hazeltine last year, while Europe captained by Thomas Bjørn will defend an unbeaten home record which stretches back to 1997. It is the third Ryder Cup with which Mouton Cadet has associated itself, following the internationally recognised wine brand’s presence at the competitions in 2014 (Gleneagles, Scotland) and in 2016 (Hazeltine, Minnesota).
Originally founded by English businessman and golf enthusiast Samuel Ryder in 1927, the biennial Ryder Cup today attracts an audience of millions around the world and is one of the world’s greatest sporting events, serving up three days of exciting competition, drama and tension.

As Official Champagne of the Tour de France* for the fifth year running, Castelnau Champagne is having an exciting few weeks at the forefront of this year’s contest as the crashes, controversy and unexpected results so far are attracting an unprecedented level of international media focus.

In May this year Champagne Castelnau launched a new communications strategy including a fresh new look for its bottles, with Managing Director Pascal Prudhomme describing the concept as “signifying the quality of our wine as well as our audacious attitude.”

Now, as part of its activity around the 2017 Tour de France, Castelnau Champagne has teamed up with the world’s largest cycling publisher, Immediate Media Cycling, which reaches over 8.5 million cyclists per month. An on-line competition to win a case of Castelnau Champagne’s smart new look Brut Reserve NV is running with Immediate Media’s UK titles ProCycling, Bike Radar and Cycling News via Facebook and Twitter.

Belinda Stone, Marketing and Communication Manager at Castelnau Wine Agencies UK says “The Tour de France has become a hugely high-profile international sporting event and we are delighted that Castelnau Champagne continues its strong partnership with it. The high level of attention and excitement around the competition fits perfectly with Castelnau Champagne’s new drive to reach consumers and communicate with them in relevant and interesting ways. It’s a great fit for the brand.”

Meanwhile, back in France, the UK’s Chris Froome is performing well in the competition, but with other cycling greats hot on his tail, including Italy’s Fabio Aru currently lying second overall and pictured here with a magnum of Castelnau Champagne at the start of the contest.

Castelnau Champagne’s stated ambition is to sell one million bottles by 2020, with the UK being a key market.

*Castelnau Champagne is the Official Champagne of The Tour de France and all cycling events owned by Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O).

Almaviva celebrates its 20th anniversary!

When better to reach the prime of life than in 2017, officially declared the Franco-Chilean Year of Innovation? The event was sealed on Saturday, 17 June by Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, and Alfonso Larrain Santa Maria, Chairman of Viña Concha y Toro SA, during an evening that was both solemn and festive.

It is a happy coincidence, because innovation has been central to all that we do and to Almaviva’s success over the last two decades. It started in 1997 when the agreement was signed between Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Chair of the Supervisory Board of Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, and Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle, Chairman of Viña Concha y Toro SA. Through two great family-owned wine companies at the cutting-edge of progress, the Old World and the New joined hands.

“At a time when the eyes of the wine world were turned elsewhere, Chile was a still little-explored land with an exceptional climate and terroir. Our joint venture was as visionary as its two founders. I should like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to our mother, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, expressing all our gratitude to her and our determination to pursue this shared enterprise by raising Almaviva to new heights. Now secure on sound foundations, Almaviva is a living, moving estate, ready to take up the challenges of the future”, said Philippe Sereys de Rothschild.

Innovation is also in the lifeblood of this particularly ambitious partnership, founded on common values and goals. Over the last 20 years, that quest for excellence has led the joint technical teams to constantly question their assumptions.

“From the outset, the Chilean and French staff have worked together to understand the needs and the challenges. The progress made in the vineyard and the winery has made us more efficient. The quality of our wines today gives the measure of those 20 years of hard work”, said Alfonso Larrain Santa Maria. “But we will not stop there. These days a vineyard is also a laboratory of ideas, it must be at the cutting-edge of innovation. But always and only with one single objective: excellence”, he concluded.

Innovation is also to be found in the creation of the notion Primer Orden, equivalent to a French Grand Cru Classé, in recognition of Almaviva’s exceptional complexity and great ageing potential. In order to deserve such a distinction, the wine must be made from vines and in a winery reserved exclusively for its production under the supervision of a dedicated technical team.

Today, Almaviva has definitively earned its place in the big league.

Mouton America's Cup

The bestselling Bordeaux brand introduces guests of one of the world’s premier sports competitions to its exclusive Mouton Cadet Wine Cellar serving America’s Cup Special Cuvée

Philip Sereys de Rothschild and Sir Russell Coutts with Mouton Cadet America's Cup Cuvée at The America's Cup in Bermuda

Bermuda – June 5th 2017: Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the family company Baron Philippe de Rothschild, welcomes Sir Russell Coutts – CEO of the America’s Cup Event Authority – at the Mouton Cadet Wine Cellar today during the 35th America’s Cup. Marking the debut of Mouton Cadet as the Official Wine of the 35th America’s Cup, yacht racing’s most exciting event, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Sir Russell Coutts celebrate the new relations between the famous Bordeaux brand and the 35th America’s Cup.

The America’s Cup’s venerable heritage as the competition for the oldest trophy in international sports complements Mouton Cadet’s high technical skill and commitment to excellence at all levels. Philippe Sereys de Rothschild says: ”I am delighted that Mouton Cadet, the worldwide Bordeaux brand, has entered this new partnership with the America’s Cup, the oldest and most prestigious sailing event in the world. This partnership makes perfect sense: we are both international brands with a strong history, ours dating back to 1853, when my family took its first big step into the world of wine, just two years after the America’s Cup was founded. But, above all, the partnership with the America’s Cup celebrates the synergy between Mouton Cadet’s exacting standards and the high-level of rigor and dedication needed to compete in elite events.”

Mouton Cadet Wine Cellar

Located in the America’s Cup Village at the finish line of the race, the Mouton Cadet Wine Cellar enjoys an exceptional position for taking in the competition and offers stunning views of the famed coastline. The America’s Cup Special Cuvée will serve as the official wine of the month-long competition, scheduled to run from Saturday, May 27th to Tuesday, June 27th . The glass-etched design on the bottle was signed by Sir Russell Coutts, five-time winner of the America’s Cup, who shares: “I am thrilled to welcome Mouton Cadet aboard as Official Wine of the 35th America’s Cup and also pleased to have been part of the design of the Special Cuvée bottle. Depicting the parallel between the forces of nature at sea and on land, it perfectly underlines the unpredictable natural elements that the crew is facing when driving a race boat or the winemaker when confronted with a threatening storm over his vineyards. Both have to work with nature, interpret the conditions, plan their course and strive to achieve the best.”

The limited edition red, white and rosé wines are the perfect accompaniment to the sailing events, allowing wine lovers and sailing enthusiasts alike the chance to participate in one of the sport’s most prestigious events.

For those who couldn’t make it to Bermuda this year, the America’s Cup Cuvée is available in select markets globally, in the UK at Harrods at £19.95. Follow @MoutonCadet on Instagram for news and updates on Mouton Cadet, Official Wine of the 2017 America’s Cup.

About the 35th America’s Cup

The America’s Cup is the competition for the oldest trophy in international sport and dates back to 1851. Over that time, teams representing just four nations (the United States of America, Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland) have won the trophy in over 160 years of competition. It is one of the greatest challenges in all of sport. The defending champion is ORACLE TEAM USA, who first won the America’s Cup in 2010, and successfully defended the title in 2013. Now six teams, including ORACLE TEAM USA, have signed up to take on the challenge again.

Champagne Castelnau

Managing Director of Champagne Castelnau, Pascal Prudhomme joined the UK team of its subsidiary, Castelnau Wine Agencies, in London last night to unveil radical new visual communications for the Reims-based House as it enters its second century.

Following twelve months of research and development since the brand celebrated its 100th anniversary, the new communications for Champagne Castelnau include new labels, new gift packaging and new trade marketing materials, which together introduce a boldly creative new language and environment for the brand.

The new concept captures the expertise, inventive creativity and audacity which have long been hallmarks of Castelnau, taking the brand forward with a new identity, including the erasing of the word “de” from the brand name, and a new logo comprising two linked letter Cs for Champagne Castelnau, embedded in a black drop motif, signifying the “bead” of Champagne.

The move away from more traditional Champagne cues is deliberate and the different styles of Champagne from Castelnau are identified via different colours of an additional drop motif on the communication materials, including the labels.

Explaining the strategy behind the new launch Pascal Prudhomme comments “Celebrating our centenary last year gave us the opportunity to reflect on our journey ahead and I decided to do an internal audit of our brand, which showed great loyalty from our current customers, plus the opportunity to widen our appeal to new customers. Our ambition is to sell one million bottles by 2020 and two million by 2025 so reaching an extended audience is key. Therefore, the new concept is based on two things: our roots, signifying the quality of our wine, and our soul, signifying our audacious attitude, embracing the unusual or the unexpected. We are now entering a new era of communication about Champagne Castelnau.”

The new look range from Champagne Castelnau will be presented at the London Wine Fair (stand D22) and is available in the UK from Castelnau Wine Agencies, who will also unveil a new company identity at the fair.

Les Dauphins

The first sparkling wine by leading Rhône wine brand Les Dauphins is now being launched.

Created by Union des Vignerons des Côtes du Rhône, in collaboration with UK based French wine specialist Dedicated Wines, the Les Dauphins brand was launched in 2011 and has seen target-smashing sales of its Côtes du Rhône red white and rosé wines in all major international markets.

Now, on the back of that success the team behind the brand believe the time is right to launch Les Dauphins Blanc de Blancs. Presented in a classic deep punted bottle, it is dressed with the instantly recognisable and much admired Les Dauphins blue and red label.

The new Les Dauphins sparkling wine has been created by winemaker Guillaume Valli, using traditional grapes such as Marsanne and Rousanne from the group’s southern Rhône vineyards. The emphasis is on bright and refreshing flavours, in keeping with the Les Dauphins brand style and its Rhône heritage.

Wine and Spirit Trade Association figures showed the UK sparkling wine market was worth £1.2 billion in 2016 with 132 million bottles sold.

The first listing for Les Dauphins Blanc de Blancs will be in May in Waitrose which already stocks Les Dauphins Côtes du Rhône Villages Grande Réserve and Les Dauphins Crus des Côtes du Rhône Vinsobres. Waitrose Wine Buyer Rebecca Hull MW comments

“Sparkling wine sales are continuing to enjoy lively growth and customers are increasingly looking to broaden their repertoire from Prosecco, Cava and traditional Crémants. Les Dauphins Blanc de Blancs will be a fun and friendly new face in the fizz fixture. Waitrose customers already have great affection for the Les Dauphins brand, so I’m positive that this new bubbly extension to the range will get a warm welcome.”

Speaking of the launch, Richard Evans of Dedicated Wines comments “We are delighted that Waitrose are first to market with this innovation. The fantastic success of Les Dauphins has proved that consumers do want recognisable wine brands which deliver great quality. We all are aware of the outstanding growth of the ‘informal’ sparkling wine category and Les Dauphins Blanc de Blancs is well set to contribute to further that growth.”

The listing in Waitrose will be supported with consumer activity at food and wine festivals and on social media throughout the year.

Connoisseur Estates

Connoisseur Estates is delighted to announce a new agency agreement for Woodchurch English sparkling wines from Kent.

Andrew Steel, director of Connoisseur Estates comments: “With the advance in quality and popularity of English sparkling wines in recent years, not having an English wine in the portfolio had become an increasingly obvious gap for us as a supplier of boutique, family owned wines to the independent sector, so we made a concerted effort to find the right producer and Woodchurch fits the bill perfectly.”

Woodchurch is a family business established in 2009 at Woodchurch Estate in Kent, by Graham and Donna Barbour who produce award winning English sparkling wine. The vineyard is situated on the edge of the picturesque village of Woodchurch in Kent – the garden of England. Set on hills looking south over the ancient Romney marsh down to the English channel, the land has the perfect geography and climate to produce the highest quality grapes and the finest English sparkling wine. The wines are carefully hand-crafted to express the characteristics of each individual season. They released their first wines in 2015 producing a Classic Cuvée, Rosé and Blanc de Blancs.

The Woodchurch wines will be available in the UK for the independent On and Off Trade. The Classic Cuvée will retail at £26.95 and the Rosé & Blanc de Blancs at £28.95.

Connoisseur Estates also represents leading producers such as Tohu & Aronui from New Zealand, Oldenburg Vineyards from South Africa, Gauchezco Wines from Argentina, and Champagne Autréau amongst others.
